| The LAFB (Libyan
Arab Foreign Bank) was established in 1972 to support international
investments, in addition to the
Libyan Investment Authority
as Sovereign Wealth Fund. The Libyan Arab Foreign Bank is in Tripoli and is the Libyan first banking institution licensed for international operations. The bank is fully owned by the Central Bank of Libya. The bank owns 26% of British Arab Commercial Bank, which is also an affiliate of HSBC Group.

To facilitate the international trade, LAFB is in charge for money flows control
and loans to public institutions and private sectors.
In 2007, the African Business magazine placed LAFB at number 10 of Africa's Top 100 Banks ranking, and 4 in the North Africa.
